College Application Process

 

Admission Timeline Senior Year

September/October

  • Make a list of potential colleges from Naviance in “Colleges I’m Thinking About”.
  • Call Admissions counselors and schedule open houses, tours/interviews at colleges
  • Your completed resume must be given to two teachers and Ms. Fourney for  letters of recommendation two weeks before application deadlines
  • Register for the SAT/ACT and/or Subject SAT (Ivy League )-School Code 310500
  • Decide on what colleges you want to apply and have SAT/ACT scores sent to colleges
  • Complete your on-line college applications (Common Application/Non Common Application) and then bring Mrs. Dolce the proper St. Joseph parent permission transcript release authorization forms for each college you apply
  • Attend the “Senior Hello” presentation with parents

November/December

  • Be aware of college application deadlines
  • File for a FASFA(financial aid) pin number on-line
  • Register for the NCAA Clearinghouse if you plan to participate in Division I or II sports
  • By now you should have visited all the colleges you apply
  • Attend the St. Joseph “Financial Aid Night” with parents

January/February

  • After your parents file their yearly income tax, Fill out the on-line FASFA
  • Look  for outside scholarships (St. Joe website, Fastweb.com, parents work,    community)
  • Complete parent permission transcript release authorization forms for each scholarship and give to Mrs. Dolce

March/April

  • Be sure to give the Mrs. Dolce all copies of all your college acceptance and scholarship letters!
  • Check with each college for their policy on deposits/confirm enrollment
  • Be prepared for the arrival of your financial package from each college that you applied
  • May 1st  deadline to enroll at the college of your choice

COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCEDURES

APPLY ON-LINE

ALL COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS MUST BE PROCESSED THROUGH THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE PROCEDURES:

Step 1)
• Complete your resume and give it to your two teachers and Ms. Fourney for letters of recommendation two weeks before application deadlines.
Step 2)
• Make sure you are registered or have already taken the SAT or the ACT twice (Two SAT Subject Test for Ivy League Schools). St. Joseph High School Coded is 310500.
• We require that you arrange for all official SAT/ACT scores to be sent at least 10 days before college deadlines directly to the colleges through CollegeBoard/ACT.
Step 3)
• If you are utilizing the Common Application to apply to any of your colleges, you must assign and invite your recommenders and complete the FERPA section on the Common Application before moving your college in Naviance.
• Once you have submitted an application electronically, you must move that college from “Colleges I’m Thinking About” to “Colleges I’m Applying To” screen in Naviance. You must check the box next to the college name and then hit Move to Application List. Next, choose what type then Add Application.
• Next, go to “Colleges I’m Applying To” IMPORTANT…If you are applying with the Common Application you must MATCH with your email address in the big blue box before completing and giving the transcript release form to Mrs. Dolce!
• After moving and/or matching the college, fill out the appropriate (Common Application transcript release form or Non-Common Application transcript release form) and give it to Mrs. Dolce.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE OF THE FOLLOWING DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION MATERIALS TO GUIDANCE

  1. All early decision applications must be in the Guidance Office no later than November
  2. All applications with a January deadline must be in the Guidance Office no later than December
  3. All other applications must be in the Guidance Office at lease two weeks prior to the application deadline

 

The Guidance Office will not guarantee applications being sent out on time unless the student meets these deadlines!
