SAINT JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM
HEADED BY LOCAL ATTORNEY
This year’s Mock Trial Team at Saint Joseph High School will be headed by one of our local attorneys and town prosecutor, Shirley Grasso. Ms. Grasso will coach participants at Saint Joseph High School, grades 9 through 12, who join the Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial competition.
This program, new to Saint Joseph, will provide training to enhance learning about the law, and create innovative programs that bring law to life in and out of the classroom. The class, offered after school to Saint Joseph High School students, will enhance the teaching of the law and the judicial system. Grasso asks for all students who are interested in a career as an attorney, a member of the legal profession, the political arena, or law enforcement, to sign up for the program. The program centers on a specific legal case, focused on “Driving while Distracted”. Grasso needs students to play the part of attorney, lay witnesses, and expert witnesses. The attorney players will learn how to open and close a case in front of a jury, direct and cross examine witnesses in a trial, and argue in front of judges. The witnesses will learn how to become effective witnesses, either lay or expert, on the witness stand.
The actual competition, open to parents, friends and relatives, will be held in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Atlantic County, where students will compete against other schools throughout the county.
