What Every High School Student Needs to Know Before College
 
Freshmen Year
Meet with you counselor to discuss your college plans.
Make sure you are enrolled in challenging classes.
Colleges prefer four years of English, history, math, science, and a foreign  language.
Get more involved with your extracurricular activities. 
 
 
Sophomore Year
Meet with you counselor to discuss college majors and programs of interest.
Prepare to take the PSATs in the Fall.
Research specific colleges of interest and costs.
Work hard to keep your GPA (grade-point-average) up.
 
Junior Year
Meet with your counselor to learn the college application process.
Prepare to take the PSATs in the Fall .
Register for the SATs in the Spring at collegeboard.com.
Take SATs at least twice.
Register for Subject SAT’s for Ivy League Universities.
Make a list of potential colleges.
Brainstorm which teachers will write a recommendation letter for you.
Schedule tours at colleges of interest.
 
Senior Year
Meet with your counselor to discuss where you want to apply.
Attend open houses, college fairs, and visitation dates.
Register to take SATs again in the Fall.
Make sure letters of recommendations are on file.
Fill out on-line college applications and adhere to all deadline dates.
Bring parent permission slips to your counselor
to release your transcripts.
Attend financial aid workshops.
Submit FAFSA’s financial aid application as soon as January 1st.
After receiving acceptance letters and financial aid information on the colleges of your choice, bring a copy to the Guidance Department then make your final decision!
